Sciatica, Back Pain, Back Ache, Neck Pain, Neck Ache, Natural ReliefSciatica is a condition in which pain radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which travels from the low back through the hips, buttocks, and down each leg.  Pain, sometimes severe, can be felt anywhere along the nerve, but it is most commonly felt along a path between the buttocks and the back of the thigh or calf.  The pain can range from a mild ache to a sharp excruciating sensation.

Although it may seem strange to consider, since the pain is elsewhere, often the source of sciatic nerve pain begins with a misalignment in the neck.  The spine is connected from top to bottom by many joints, ligaments, and muscles.  When the top two vertebrae in the neck, the keystone of the spine, misalign, it causes a cascading effect of problems.  Over time, this head and neck misalignment distorts a person’s posture, ultimately leading to imbalances in the low back that can cause sciatica.

In his Fair Oaks upper cervical chiropractic clinic, Dr. Gottlieb can determine if a misalignment of the top two vertebrae in the neck is the root cause of your sciatica.  Treating the symptoms of sciatic pain will not lead to lasting relief if the root cause lies in the neck.  In many cases, an upper cervical chiropractic adjustment is the best way to achieve natural, lasting relief from sciatica.  While it might seem counter-intuitive at first to start at the neck when the pain is in the lower back and leg, getting to the bottom of the issue is always your best bet.

Migraines, Headaches, Natural ReliefMigraines are a condition that is characterized by pulsing and throbbing in the head. It is estimated that 36 million Americans suffer from migraines. As many as 18 million Americans have chronic migraines, which would be 5 or more migraines monthly. Migraines may last for only a few hours or several days, and many people accept this as part of daily living.

Migraines are a challenging condition to treat as they are as unique as the individual who has them. This makes it very hard for patients and doctors alike. The market for drug treatments is constantly expanding. In this day and age, many people are no longer looking for a pill to cover up the symptoms and want a natural solution for migraines.

One of the latest crazes involves something known as the Daith piercing, a piercing of the cartilage in the inner ear lobe. Social media is abuzz with people posting their piercing, claiming migraine relief as a result. The proposed mechanism of migraine relief is that the section of the ear that is pierced is the same as the trigger point for migraines in acupuncture. Acupuncture works by inserting needles at specific points to allow proper flow of Qi. Acupuncture is somewhat controversial but is known to help some conditions as it has an effect on the nervous system. There are no studies done yet to prove or disprove this, and some doctors are wary to recommend it as a migraine treatment.1 Meanwhile, other natural methods are showing more promise in clinical studies.

In Fair Oaks, California many people with migraines are getting results using a different method. Migraine specialist Dr. Brett Gottlieb helps migraine sufferers get natural migraine relief. As an Upper Cervical Chiropractor, Dr. Gottlieb specializes in the Atlas bone (C1 vertebra) and the coordination between the brain and nervous system as it relates to migraines. When the Atlas bone moves from its natural position, it has consequences that may result in migraines. By analyzing and correcting the Atlas misalignment using a gentle and precise Upper Cervical Chiropractic Adjustment, migraines are often reduced as the brain and nervous system return to normal function. In clinical studies of migraine patients, it has been shown that 1-2 upper cervical Chiropractic Adjustments not only improve migraine condition but may even lead to a complete resolution.2

Migraines, Headaches, Natural ReliefMigraines afflict 1 in 8 people. The best way to cope with such a major health problem is through education about treatment options. Migraines affect a person’s home life and work productivity. Treatment is sought, and side effects are often accepted as a necessary evil. However, some migraine treatments may actually be perpetuating the problem.

The issue is that many pain relievers used to treat migraines can ultimately cause Medication Overuse Headaches. When certain over-the-counter medications are taken several times each week, they can cause rebound headaches. In the end, the treatment is keeping the underlying problem from going away.

A Solution to the Pain-Killer Cycle

The bigger problem is that the use of pain medication is merely an attempt to cover the symptoms of a migraine rather than an actual solution to this debilitating health condition. Dr. Brett Gottlieb, an upper cervical chiropractor in Sacramento, California, is helping migraine sufferers to get natural relief without medication.

Migraines are often caused by a misalignment of the C1 and C2 vertebrae that can create pressure on the brainstem and block proper blood flow. If an examination shows that an upper cervical misalignment may be causing your migraines, Dr. Gottlieb can develop an alignment program to provide relief. For many, upper cervical adjustments have provided great relief and even eliminated migraines altogether. 1
