Vertigo Relief, Dizziness Relief, Dizzy, Meniere’s Relief, Vertigo, Dizziness, Meniere’s , Meniere’s Disease A study concerning Meniere’s disease and 139 patients revealed a very interesting fact. After receiving upper cervical chiropractic care, 136 of these people showed a marked reduction in their symptoms, particularly vertigo. Another intriguing fact is that all 139 had suffered some kind of trauma in the past leading them to be diagnosed with whiplash.

These patients received care for two years and were then reevaluated. On a symptom scale of 0-10 (0 being no symptoms whatsoever), they reported a change from 8.5 when they began to 1.4 after the period of care. Some stated that they still had very mild dizziness but no vertigo. Some had mild nausea but no vomiting. Their Meniere’s symptoms did not occur as frequently or as severely as in the past, and they were able to recover in less time.

Zeroing in on Meniere’s Disease

Let’s take a look at just one of those 139 participants in the above-mentioned study, Jack. He was diagnosed with Meniere’s after seeking care from an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist in 2001. To confirm the diagnosis, he had an MRI, an abnormal bithermal caloric test (ENG), and a positive audiological exam to detect hearing loss. The conclusion reached was that his Meniere’s disease began with a vehicle accident he experienced in 1994 that led to episodes of vertigo lasting up to a week at a time. He also had a feeling of fullness in the affected ear, headaches, and neck pain.

Jack began receiving upper cervical care and after one week, he saw fewer vertigo episodes. His walking improved as his legs were now in balance (it was found that one leg was 1” shorter than the other). Six weeks after cervical care, his results were as follows:

Jack’s experience shows that upper cervical chiropractic care can actually help someone who is suffering from Meniere’s disease. By correcting the upper neck misalignment, the body begins to communicate properly, and the natural healing process can begin. A healthy spine means a happier, healthier person.

Sciatica, Sciatic Nerve, Back Pain, Back AcheYou feel the aches and pains start and realize that it is going to be impossible to finish your daily routine, let alone your work tasks. Low back pain is the second most common reason Americans visit a physician. A list of common events that cause low back pain include (1) -

- Car accident

- Fall

- Operating heavy, vibrating machinery

- Sitting for long periods of time

- Lifting heavy items (packages, machinery, etc.) and twisting

Common approaches to managing low back pain include NSAIDs and/or other pain management medications, physical therapy, and possible surgery. These solutions mask the pain of low back problems but fail to address the underlying cause.

How is my low back pain related to my neck?

Your spinal cord sends signals to and from your brain. Your nerves branch off of your brain and spinal cord. Your spine is designed to protect your vital spinal cord. When the top bone in your spine (atlas) is out of alignment, it creates spinal cord tension. This tension leads to the signals becoming distorted. Improper signals can lead to postural imbalance, pain, and muscle spasms. One of the ways an atlas misalignment can create low back pain is through postural imbalance. Muscle tension can increase on one side of the body, causing one hip to be higher than the other. This causes one leg to be slightly shorter than the other.

I am trained in QSM3 and NUCCA, two precise chiropractic techniques. Through the use of these approaches, I am able to gently realign the atlas, reducing pressure within the spinal cord. This leads to proper signals being sent to and from the brain, potentially creating balanced posture. Less muscle tension leads to even hips, possibly reducing low back pain symptoms.

Chung et al. described a case study of a 57-year-old man who experienced sciatica down both legs, along with other health issues. After approximately one month of NUCCA care, his sciatica pain reduced by 90%. After 2 months of care, he experienced complete resolution of his sciatica (2).

If you are experiencing low back pain and would like more information on how QSM3 and NUCCA can help, give Upper Cervical Chiropractic of Sacramento a call at (916) 965-7155.

Sciatica, Sciatic Nerve, Back Pain, Back AcheMany may think of back problems as being something only blue collar workers have to worry about, but that cushy office job can wreak havoc on a person’s back as well. Sitting at a desk for hours on end can have serious consequences.

According to the Bureau of Labor, injuries that affect workers most commonly occur in the shoulder, back, legs, arms, abdomen, and wrist. Many of these injuries are common in offices.

What Causes Injuries in the Workplace?

Falls are one of the most common issues. Falls are most often caused by slippery floors, dim lighting, loose carpeting, or objects on the floor. All of these problems affect offices. Other common injuries come from sitting for long periods of time, using a keyboard all day, and lifting heavy items the wrong way. Here are a few safety measures to keep in mind.

Upper Cervical Support

Your neck deals with a lot of strain at the office too, especially if your monitor is not right at eye level. An upper cervical chiropractor can help you to ensure that a repetitive motion injury does not occur in your neck. A misalignment of the upper cervical spine can have far reaching effects on the body.

At Upper Cervical Chiropractic of Sacramento, we use both the NUCCA technique and QSM3 to diagnose and correct upper cervical misalignments. Whether you spend a lot of time at your desk or have fallen in the workplace, I strongly recommend an examination.

Sciatica, Sciatic Nerve, Back Pain, Back AcheIt would be very rare to meet an adult who has never had an episode of low back pain.  An unlucky portion of these people may also experience sciatica, which is pain that radiates from the lower back through the hips, buttocks, and leg along the path of the sciatic nerve.  Many times, people turn to medications or other gadgets like support belts and shoe insoles in order to find relief.  By some estimates, people across the U.S. have spent up to $80 in one year for treatment of spinal issues, including lower back pain.

This may come as a surprise, but the pain in your low back may actually be coming from a spinal problem originating in the neck.  Your uppermost two vertebrae in the neck are unique from all of the others.  They are freely movable and do not have interlocking joints like the rest.  This makes them especially prone to misaligning, and when they do, it sets off a cascade of compensations throughout the rest of the spine.  This can not only cause pain and discomfort in the back but also the radiating leg pain of sciatica.  No amount of adjusting to the lower back will provide lasting relief since the main issue is elsewhere in the spine.

Sciatica, Sciatic Nerve, Back Pain, Back AcheAre you looking for relief from sciatica? If so, you are not alone. Unfortunately, many look for that relief in a bottle of pain medication. While this may disguise the symptoms temporarily, the pain is still there, waiting for the medication to wear off. Is there a better way?

Upper cervical chiropractors have been trained to treat sciatica at its source. Often, sciatica occurs due to a longstanding misalignment in the upper neck. As the rest of the spine shifts to compensate, pressure is placed on the sciatic nerve. Realignment can help the body to heal.

In the meantime, you may be able to do some stretching exercises to relieve the pain. Consider some of the following techniques, and don’t forget to talk to your upper cervical chiropractor before beginning a new exercise or stretch routine.

Stretches that Help Sciatica

Why Stretch?

Holding stretches like these for about 30 seconds each and performing three sets per day will help to relax the muscles. This will often reduce pressure on the sciatic nerve. It also increases blood flow. As a result, healing can take place more quickly, and you may experience a great range of motion. Don’t forget to get an examination from an upper cervical chiropractor to determine if an adjustment can help your body to heal even faster.

Migraines, Headaches, Migraine, Headache, Migraine ReliefMigraines are no small thing as anyone who suffers from them can attest. Migraines are considered to be one of the most prominent health conditions globally. In the United States, 12% of the population succumb to at least one attack per year. For women, it is 3x as likely. Migraines account for 113 million sick days per year totaling a financial loss of $13 billion according to the Migraine Research Foundation. Some people are unfortunate enough to have chronic migraines, which means 15 or more monthly.

The big question in healthcare isn’t how they happen but what to do about it. It is well documented in medical literature that the major systems involved with migraines are the brain, nerves/nervous system, and blood flow. Research is also showing the possibility of genetics related to migraines. What can be done? Treatments vary greatly, but typically NSAID’s (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) are the most common course of action. There are many drug companies racing to find a “cure” as it would mean big business, but there is nothing conclusive. Migraines are as unique as the individual, requiring careful diagnosis and treatment.

Some healthcare providers are starting to take a natural approach to migraines. Migraine specialist Dr. Brett Gottlieb is taking an approach where less is more, much more. As an Upper Cervical Chiropractor, Dr. Gottlieb gives each patient special attention. Dr. Gottlieb helps patients by ensuring the proper position of the atlas bone which is the top bone in the neck. The atlas bone is very important to the optimal function of the body as it has implications for the brain, nervous system, and blood flow, all of which are key factors in resolving migraines.

By taking a careful look at each patient and formulating a customized plan, he is able to correct the misalignment of the atlas bone. Clinical studies have shown that migraine patients receiving Upper Cervical Chiropractic have improved in as little as one adjustment.1

Herniated Disc, Sciatica, Sciatic Nerve, Back Pain, Back AcheHow can a person know if they are experiencing pain from a herniated disk? You might have one and not even be aware of it. However, they may also cause you intense pain. One of the symptoms is feeling a tingling sensation as if your arm or leg is asleep. You may also experience weakness in the muscles that are affected by the herniation. It may cause you to be unable to lift something or even to stumble while walking. Another symptom to look for is pain in your arm or leg. Whether if affects your arm or your leg largely depends on where the damaged disk is located.

What Is a Herniated Disc?

The disks located in your vertebrae are protected by a gel-like substance that keeps the bones from grinding together. When a herniation occurs, some of this gel leaks out of place. It then causes irritation to the surrounding nerves and muscles. This makes it easier for the disks to then shift. Sometimes this is referred to as a slipped disk. If this area then becomes inflamed, it can cause severe pain.

What Can Be Done?

At this point, it is important to relieve the pressure being put on the nerves and muscles from the herniated disk. This is done by getting the spine back into its proper position. If your weight is just slightly unbalanced, it will lead to more pain from the herniated disc. It is highly recommended that you seek the care of an upper cervical chiropractor.

Dr. Brett Gottlieb of Fair Oaks, California is an upper cervical chiropractor who has been trained to detect misalignments in the spine. He will specifically focus on the bones in the upper part of the neck. If a misalignment is found here, it can lead to all kinds of problems throughout the body. It can be a cause of improper posture, uneven weight distribution, and extreme pain from a herniated disk.

Once Dr. Gottlieb finds the misalignment, he can then work with you to correct it through gentle, precise adjustments. You should begin to feel some relief after your first visit. Why not contact him for an appointment as soon as possible?

Headaches, Headache, Migraines, Migraine, Cluster Headache, Headache Relief Sacramento CA, migraine headache relief, what causes headaches, migraine treatment, tension headache, constant headache, natural remedies for headaches, migraine natural reliefHeadaches are a condition that compromises the quality of life for many Americans. There are several different types of headaches, and migraines are often confused as one and the same thing, but there are some that are worse than others.

The most painful type of a headache is known as a cluster headache and nicknamed the Suicide Headache. According to The Migraine Trust, it is estimated that 1-2 in 1000 people suffer from this type of debilitating headache.1 A cluster headache is characterized by these symptoms:

Anyone with cluster headaches can attest to how bad they can affect daily living. NFL football player Terrance Knighton (aka Pot Roast) describes them as living in a personal “hell.” You have to be tough to play nose tackle in the NFL like Knighton does, but even this 355-pound man says, “On a scale of one to 10, the pain is a 50.”2 Recently, he was affected so badly, he missed a key game in November. He has been to 20-30 doctors since the headaches began in the 5th grade, and he hopes for a cure to come soon.

Headache Relief Sacramento CA

Many people in the Fair Oaks area are looking for a more natural treatment that does not involve powerful drugs or invasive surgery. Headache specialist, Dr. Brett Gottlieb, helps his patients accomplish relief naturally from headaches in Sacramento as an upper cervical chiropractor.

It is proven through research that headaches are related to the atlas bone (C1 vertebrae) and central nervous system. Patients who suffer from headaches may have a misalignment in the upper neck that affects the brain and body’s ability to function. It has been scientifically proven that, in a review of 100 patients with headaches under upper cervical chiropractic care, that a misalignment was present at the atlas, and when specifically corrected, headaches were reduced, and quality of life improved.3

Sciatica, Sciatic Nerve, Back Pain, Back AchePain in the low back is so common that many people just chalk it up to their job, their mattress, or just a part of growing older.  In fact, 90% of the times that people seek medical advice for their back pain, the cause isn’t able to be ascertained and is labeled as “common nonspecific back pain.”  Traditional treatment options range from ice packs to over-the-counter painkillers on the conservative side, to more invasive treatments such as cortisone injections and surgical intervention.  Because bones, muscles, ligaments, and other supporting structures connect the entire spine, in some instances, the solution to lower back pain may actually lie a bit farther up the chain.

My low back hurts, how is this related to my neck?

The bones of the spine, your vertebra, are designed to protect your spinal cord.  The spinal cord is the highway on which messages between the body and the brain travel.  Nerves branch off the spinal cord to provide information to all the components of your body.  When the top bone in your spine, the atlas, is misaligned, it creates tension throughout the entire spine from top to bottom.  While it may seem strange to think about, the pain you experience in your low back may be a result of a misalignment in your neck.  This is because of the compensations that happen to correct for the misalignment of the head and neck – the shoulders and hips will compensate leading to postural distortions and muscle imbalances.

To correct the compensations that lead to nagging low back pain, Dr. Brett Gottlieb gently works to realign the atlas vertebra.  When normal upper cervical alignment is restored, this brings ease to rest of the spine.  Tension on the spinal cord is released, posture can return to normal, and balance returns to the muscles.  A gentle adjustment to the neck is sometimes all it takes to clear up stubborn low back pain.

Sciatica, Sciatic Nerve, Back Pain, Back AcheIt is estimated that 5 percent of people with low back pain also have sciatica. Sitting for long periods, walking, or climbing stairs can all recreate the sciatic pain. What many people don't know is that while sciatica always involves one leg, it can present in a few different ways. (1)

- Achy sensation

-“Pins and needles”

- Shooting, searing pain

Standing and stretching temporarily improve the sciatic symptoms. Traditional management of sciatica involves anti-inflammatories, corticosteroid injections, and/or surgery. These interventions may work to manage the symptoms of sciatica, but they do not address the underlying cause of the condition.

How is my sciatica related to my neck?

Your spinal cord sends signals to and from your brain. Your nerves branch off of your brain and spinal cord. Your spine is designed to protect your vital spinal cord. When the top bone in your spine (atlas) is out of alignment, it creates spinal cord tension. This tension leads to the signals becoming distorted. Improper signals can lead to postural imbalance, pain, and muscle spasms. One of the ways an atlas misalignment can create sciatica is through postural imbalance. Muscle tension can increase on one side of the body, causing one hip to be higher than the other. This causes one leg to be slightly shorter than the other.

Dr. Gottlieb is trained in QSM3 and NUCCA, two precise chiropractic techniques. Through the use of these approaches, he is able to gently realign the atlas, reducing pressure within the spinal cord. This leads to proper signals being sent to and from the brain, potentially creating balanced posture. Less muscle tension leads to even hips, possibly reducing sciatica symptoms.

Alibhoy described a case study of a 45-year-old woman who experienced sciatica down both legs, along with other health issues. After approximately one month of specific atlas chiropractic care, her left leg sciatica resolved. Her right leg sciatica had improved 60%. After six months of care, her right leg sciatica had decreased 98%. (2)

If you are experiencing sciatica and would like more information on how QSM3 and NUCCA can help, give Upper Cervical Chiropractic of Sacramento a call at (916) 965-7155.
