Migraine, Migraines, Headache, Headaches, Head Pain, Migraine Headaches, Migraine Relief, Headache Relief, Tension Headache, Tension Headaches, Migraine Headaches, Migraine Headaches ReliefRebound headaches are becoming ever more common in the pharmaceutical era. The fact is that just about every condition today is treated with some kind of medication. Many of these over-the-counter or prescription drugs do nothing more than cover over the symptoms of a condition. As a result, they need to be taken again and again. Headache medications are the classic example of this scenario.

Why Headache Medication Is So Common

The fact is that there is no miracle drug that stops headaches from occurring. Therefore, a person with chronic headaches (15 or more days per month) will have to take pills on a regular basis to deal with the pain. Therein lies the problem. Medication overuse has created a vicious cycle involving rebound headaches.

What Is a Rebound Headache?

A rebound headache is a headache that is caused by the overuse of pain relievers (either prescription or over-the-counter). Sometimes, instead of using fewer pain relievers, a person is encouraged to switch pain medications when rebound headaches start to occur. This results in a constant cycle of switching to a new pain medication every time the medication overuse headaches begin. This only serves to perpetuate the problem.

A Natural and Better Solution

If you are ready to break the cycle of rebound headaches, we encourage you to look into upper cervical chiropractic care. This gentle and specific form of chiropractic does not involve popping or twisting of the spine. It is a low force correction of the upper neck that provides a long lasting adjustment, thereby giving the body time to heal.

As damage from an upper cervical misalignment is repaired, the brainstem can function optimally. Proper blood flow to the brain and cerebrospinal fluid drainage can be restored. Correcting these underlying problems has helped many to break away from pain medication altogether. For example, a collection of 101 case studies reveals the benefits of upper cervical care for headache patients with many patients in the study seeing complete resolution of headaches.

Migraines, Headaches, Migraine, Headache, Migraine ReliefMigraine pain can be excruciating at its worst. Researchers are working on a new treatment to freeze migraines. Literally.

Migraine Facts:

Migraines are now considered to be a neurological disease because of the amount of people that are affected by the condition. Stanford Medicine reports that 1 in 4 Americans suffers from migraine headaches.(1) The cost of the condition is an estimated loss of 30 billion dollars in productivity, let alone the loss of time from work. Many people aren’t getting any solutions to the problem and are looking for new ways to get relief.

Chilling Out Migraines:

New ways of treating patients are always being explored as migraines do not have one simple solution. They are unique to each patient and involve different aspects of the brain, nerves, and blood flow to the head. Stanford doctors are trying to put the problem on ice. A new device for treatment delivers a targeted blast of cold that is designed to deaden the signals that nerves send to the brain.(2) Patients are thrilled to get relief with this new treatment, but it is only temporary and does not correct the root issue.

Getting to the Core:

It is all too common for these new treatments to be revealed and give new hope until the effects wear off shortly after. As a migraine specialist, I have seen many treatment fads come and go, but I prefer to find the cause of the problem. As an upper cervical chiropractor, I focus on the role of the upper neck as it relates to headaches. The first bone under the head, known as the atlas, has a huge effect on brain stimulus, nerve function, and blood flow if it is out of its proper position. If this misalignment is unaddressed, migraines often develop as a result over time.

Instead of treating the pain related to migraines, I perform a detailed examination and create a custom adjustment for each patient based on his or her particular misalignment. Studies have shown that migraine patients receiving this care get natural migraine relief in as little as one adjustment.(3) Once the atlas is in the proper position, migraines often resolve for long periods of time.

Migraines are a condition that many people suffer from not only in Fair Oaks and Sacramento, but across the globe. The World Health Organization has Migraines and Headache as the seventh most common cause of disability in the world. Anyone with migraines knows how light and sound can become painful, with bouts of nausea that can last for hours or even days.

The University of Maryland is initiating new research on the importance of what goes wrong in the brain of migraine patients. A group of dentists leading the study is looking at an upper portion of the brain stem known as the Superior Colliculus.1 Migraine patient’s exhibit abnormal blood flow to that part of the brain. The concept of abnormal blood flow causing dysfunction to the brain is not new.

Upper Cervical chiropractors have been investigating this phenomenon for many years and helping people get natural relief from their migraine headaches. The founder of Magnetic resonance Imaging (MRI), Dr. Raymond Damadian, found that patients with previous neck injuries had abnormal oxygen flow to the brain.2

In Sacramento, Dr Brett Gottlieb specializes in helping people suffering with migraines get natural relief. As an Upper Cervical Chiropractor Dr Gottlieb uses advanced methods and tests to determine the primary cause of migraine issues. When the Atlas Vertebra (C1) is not in its normal position it affects the arteries and veins that supply proper oxygen and nutrition to the brain. By correcting the Atlas misalignment, many studies have shown great relief to migraine and headache conditions in as little as one adjustment.3

If you are suffering from migraines or headaches it is important to have the Upper Cervical area of the spine examined for proper alignment and integrity.

Botox for Migraines?

Recently a group of plastic surgeons is taking a new look at migraines especially as it relates to patients who also have carpal tunnel. These plastic surgeons are using Botox, the same chemical neurotoxin used to cause paralysis to smooth out wrinkles commonly used in the face and lips. The theory comes from recent evidence that migraines and headaches can be caused by nerves in the neck. There is evidence showing that patients with migraines and carpal tunnel have compressed nerves in the neck.2
